Open Positions

To be eligible, applicants must reside or work in Hamilton County, Ohio, have current or past experience with homelessness, and have access to both email and Microsoft Teams to participate in virtual meetings. The group meets the 2nd Monday of each month from 1-2PM and meets either in-person at Strategies to End Homelessness or Virtually on Microsoft Teams.

This requires a signed contract agreeing to attend regularly and a one-time orientation at your first meeting. The People with Lived Expertise Workgroup is a paid contractor position.

Organizational Description

Strategies to End Homelessness (STEH) is a nationally recognized leader of a coordinated community  effort to end homelessness in Greater Cincinnati. Since 2007, STEH has led a comprehensive system of care to prevent and eventually end homelessness in Cincinnati/Hamilton County. Working in partnership  with 30 non-profit organizations, STEH coordinates a centralized emergency shelter helpline,  homelessness prevention, street outreach, emergency shelter and housing solutions with the goal of  ending homelessness.

Position Overview

STEH is hiring two Full Time (40 hours per week) Central Access Point (CAP) Intake Specialist position.

The Central Access Point serves as the primary access point for potentially homeless and homeless  families and individuals seeking homelessness prevention services or emergency shelter within the  Greater Cincinnati and Hamilton County area. CAP Intake Specialists answer inbound calls to the CAP intake line, complete initial assessments to determine caller’s needs, ensure accurate data and  information collection in the HMIS and provide appropriate referrals and resources.

This role requires heavy computer and phone work as well as taking verbal instructions, typing, reading, speaking and writing.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide professional, customer-friendly service, conveying empathy and compassion for all callers.
  • Complete Coordinated Entry Access Point assessments to determine callers current living situations (homeless or at risk of homelessness).
  • Conduct required screenings to assess caller’s needs
  • Facilitate appropriate and effective referrals to emergency services such as shelter or Outreach, Homeless Prevention and Diversion programs, Veteran and Transitional housing programs on  behalf of families and individuals that are currently experiencing homelessness
  • Facilitate connection to other appropriate community services (including the Domestic Violence Crisis Hotline) as needed.
  • Document all calls and maintain required records accurately, comprehensively and in a timely manner, including data entry into the Homeless Management Information System.
  • Manage a high volume of inbound calls and electronic requests in a timely manner
  • Maintain a working in-depth knowledge of program eligibility and assessment criteria for all Cincinnati/Hamilton County area homeless services connected to CAP
  • Other duties as assigned by Coordinated Access Manager

Position Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Minimum requirement is High School Diploma or GED, Associate’s degree in Social Work or closely related field is preferred.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience working respectfully with people in crisis who may have multiple complex needs including but not limited to domestic violence, substance use, poverty, and homelessness.
  • Computer literate – HMIS (Homeless Management Information System experience, strongly preferred), Outlook, Excel, Word and Google Office products.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of the CAP team.
  • Ability to work efficiently while paying close attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with persons experiencing crisis as well as community partners.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, deal effectively with new responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage completion of multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with frequent distractions.
  • Willingness to learn about and understand homelessness, homeless prevention, emergency shelters, and the community’s homeless services system as a whole.
  • Call center experience strongly preferred
  • Preference for candidates with lived experience will be given

Position Overview

STEH is hiring a full-time Compliance Coordinator to work closely with the Compliance Director ensuring subrecipient grant compliance with local, state, and federal regulations by monitoring program performance, providing technical support, and developing programmatic tools. The Compliance Coordinator will be responsible for reviewing subaward agreements and participating in development and execution of subrecipient monitoring strategies. Programs include the Emergency Solutions Grant, Continuum of Care Program, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS, and other service programs for persons experiencing homelessness as needed. The Compliance Coordinator must maintain up-to-date knowledge of our subrecipients, federal regulations, performance goals, other issues of compliance, and local systems and policies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Research and interpret grant-specific and OMB regulations and written standards
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating written policies and procedures in alignment with regulations
  • Create and present trainings for subrecipients on complex funding requirements, as needed
  • Contribute to the development of compliance tools and written guidance that reflect regulatory requirements and best practices
  • Stay apprised of legislative changes and their impact on STEH and subrecipient projects
  • Develop and implement annual subrecipient monitoring plan
  • Conduct routine monthly and annual monitoring of subrecipients
  • Write clear, well-reasoned evaluation reports and corrective action plans based on regulatory standards and monitoring findings
  • Review project subawards and agreements
  • Complete annual reporting and applications for subrecipient funding
  • Assist in continuous quality improvement of the monitoring process
  • Maintain records and files in audit-ready format
  • Attend monthly staff meeting, Compliance Department team, and individual meetings
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or four years relevant experience preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to write clear, accurate, and professional reports, and documentation
  • Strong analytic and critical thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex federal, state and local regulations and policies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Technologically adept, with the ability to learn new programs quickly and a comfort level using digital tools to streamline processes and ensure documentation is accurate and accessible
  • Strong administrative skills, with the ability to set priorities and effectively and efficiently manage multiple tasks.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to/respond to change quickly
