Strategies to End Homelessness Announces Win for Homeless to Homes Plan
CINCINNATI (June 12, 2013) – Following the award of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits to National Church Residencies to develop permanent supportive housing at the former Alaska Acres Care Center at 3584 Alaska Ave. in Avondale, Strategies to End Homelessness announced the project as another win for the implementation of the Homeless to Homes plan. Commons at Alaska will create 99 one bedroom units of permanent supporting housing for low-income disabled and chronically homeless individuals, which will positively contribute to the implementation of the Homeless to Homes Plan to reduce and end homelessness.
“Providing permanent supportive housing is a critical part of ending homelessness, and of the overall Homeless to Homes Plan — receiving these tax credits means the project can now go forward,” said Kevin Finn, executive director of Strategies to End Homelessness.
National Church Residences has been a leader throughout the nation in creating facilities that both meet the needs of vulnerable populations, while also being good neighbors and valuable assets to their communities. This a huge win for our community; we will benefit greatly from NCR’s proven ability to deliver first class permanent supportive housing,” he added.
Strategies to End Homelessness led a community planning process to develop the Homeless to Homes Plan, a comprehensive plan to improve how the Cincinnati/Hamilton County community provides services and housing to homeless people. The plan was adopted by Cincinnati City Council in 2009. Specific to the Commons at Alaska project, the Homeless to Homes Plan calls for the establishment of a partnership between Strategies to End Homelessness and National Church Residences to improve the community’s capacity to develop and provide high-quality PSH, as a solution to homelessness.
