In cars. In parks.
These families need your help. Your generosity will assist families experiencing homelessness today. And prevent more families from becoming homeless tomorrow.
We’ve never had a true picture of the number of families experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Cincinnati. Until now.
Usually, families start their journey to housing by calling the Central Access Point Helpline. Some families can stay where they are for a few weeks. But others are already living unsheltered.
Because there is far too little affordable housing, finding the most vulnerable families that are in the greatest need of shelter is the priority. To determine which families are most in need of shelter, this summer we launched a new pilot program.
Now when families call and say they are sleeping unsheltered, a new team of Street Outreach workers go to those families, assess their needs, and start their journey to housing.
As a result of this new effort, since May 150 families have been found unsheltered on the streets of Hamilton County, while in all of 2023 only 11 families were found unsheltered.
Where to sleep? What to eat? When will the kids return to school? The stress and trauma these families experience can’t be understated.
It’s tragic, and we know you care.
Experiencing homelessness has profound and far-reaching impacts. Especially for people sleeping unsheltered. Tragically, someone sleeping outside is 16x as likely to die as someone who is housed.
While this new pilot program is enabling us to identify and help the most vulnerable families, more resources are needed. Can you help? It’s not as expensive as you may think. And the potential benefit of your generosity for these families is incredible.
Thank you for sharing our mission to end homelessness. You make Cincinnati a kinder and more equitable community.
